Competitions

The club holds a number of in house competitions for members

     WP Brown         4 Wood Pairs

William Pearson Brown was a local butcher who lived on Chapel Street (where now the former cobbler’s shop is). This is a memorial trophy (a silver rose bowl) to him who died in 1965. He owned the Green and the surrounding land after the death of the original owner - Mr Haxby Robinson. It is thanks to him that the members of the Club now own the Green and the Clubhouse etc. 

The John Doyle Trophy

A singles competition and one of the Club’s individual competitions in memory of a former member - the trophy is a decorative barometer donated to the club by John’s wife Clare upon him passing away in 1986. 

Charity Shield V Stillington 

This is a two leg match (Home and Away) where all money raised is for the Home team’s choice of charity. The competition was started in 1984 by Jim Atkinson and Jim Knapton. 

George Grainger Triples

This competition has been running since 1986 being named after a former President of the Club.

Norman Hartley Cup

An annual match in memory of Norman Hartley, one of the Club’s longest serving members, who passed away in 2012. During his 50 plus years at the Club he served as Secretary, Captain and Committee member. Members/friends of Norman’s family usually take part in this event.

Derrick Johnson Memorial Shield

This trophy was presented to the Club by Derrick’s family to commemorate him and was first played for in 2022.  This is an annual event with Huby being the opponents. Derrick was a member of both the outdoor and Short-Mat clubs (the Treasurer of the latter) and a trophy in his memory is also competed for at the end of the Short-Mat season.

Cliff Cup  
            Men's                    Championship       

First presented in 1938 by then Club President A.D. Cliff Esq. Although, originally called the President’s Cup, it is now known as the Cliff Cup. Anyone who knows any more about A.D. Cliff, please let the Club Committee know.


Ladies Challenge Cup

This contest for lady members has been running since 1972

    H. Batty Cup        Club Championship

This trophy was presented to the Club in 1962 by H.G.Batty. Anyone who knows anymore about Mr Batty, please let the Club Committee know!

The Rathmell Wood 2 wood trophy

Another individual competition this one being named after Arthur Rathmell, club member and former volunteer green-keeper (cutting the grass for 26 years!) and retiring from this job at age 86.

These matches are played on a Monday evenings 

HUBY LEAGUE

 

These matches are played on a Tuesday and Thursday evenings.

RYEDALE AND DISTRICT - VETERAN'S BOWLS LEAGUE.

 

These matches are played on a Wednesday afternoon.
